Steven Wallace enters his fifth year as Head Softball Coach at Livingstone College. Wallace comes to Livingstone from Luna Community College, where he served as head softball coach.
Wallace has been coaching for over two decades and has worked across multiple sports, including volleyball, bowling, basketball, and softball. Most recently, he coached high school softball at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. In that role, he monitored the academic performance of student-athletes in addition to athletic development, while educating athletes in rules, strategy, sportsmanship, and performance principles.
Wallace worked at Luna Community College from 2019–2021 as head softball coach. His responsibilities included recruiting student-athletes according to NJCAA guidelines, reviewing student grades for eligibility, and providing leadership and administration of the program.
From 2014–2018, Wallace served as head softball coach at Jarvis Christian University, where he also managed day-to-day operations of the athletic program. He has also held the role of Assistant Athletic Director at Virginia University of Lynchburg. Other stops include Saint Paul’s College (2004–2011), where he served as head softball, volleyball, and bowling coach.
Steve Wallace also has an accomplished background as both a student-athlete and scholar. At Virginia State University, he was a three-time scholar-athlete and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1998. He completed a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2002. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.
In April 2024, Wallace recorded his 300th career win against Johnson C. Smith University, marking a major milestone in his coaching career. In 2025, his program achieved national recognition as he led the nation in stolen bases, further highlighting his aggressive and dynamic style of play.
Wallace is widely respected for his ability to develop well-rounded student-athletes. At Virginia University of Lynchburg (2011–2013), both his volleyball and softball teams maintained team GPAs of 3.42 and 3.46 respectively. In May 2013, he led a Virginia University of Lynchburg softball team to the National Softball World Series for Small Colleges in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, becoming the first HBCU in the conference to receive that invitation. The team earned national respect for both academic excellence—featuring two student-athletes with 4.00 GPAs—and competitive performance, finishing ranked ninth in the USCAA Softball Poll.
Wallace has received numerous coaching honors, including CIAA Softball Coach of the Year (2009) at Saint Paul’s College and CIAA Bowling Coach of the Year (2002 and 2006) at Virginia State University and Saint Paul’s College.
A native of Washington, D.C., Wallace has been a Virginia resident for more than 27 years. He is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the National Tenpin Coaches Association, and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
