Livingstone's Quanera Hayes sets personal best, wins at national competition

Quanera Hayes got the win and set a personal best at the US indoor track and field championships on Saturday night in Portland, Oregon, in the 400m.

Hayes won with a  51.09 as Olympian Natasha Hastings fell at the finish.

Hayes, who is originally from Hope Mills, graduated from Livingstone in May of 2015.  

In her four years at Livingstone College, Hayes has won three national titles in the 400 meters. She also won the 200 meters national title a few weeks after graduating on May 2.

Hayes was nominated last year for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

According to IAAF,Hayes is currently ranked second in the world in the 400m with a time of 51.09.  She will running the open 400m as well as a memeber of the 400 meter relay team.

Next up for Hayes will be competition in the IAAF Indoor world championships next week in Portland, Oregon.
