Morris struck first in the top of the first inning, plating one run to go up 1-0. The Blue Bears responded in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs on three hits. Livingstone had the opportunity to really open the game as it had the bases loaded with no outs, but left the bases loaded without another run scoring. Morris scored one run in each of the top of the second and top of the third innings and the game was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the third inning, Livingstone sent 15 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on only three hits. Three Hornet errors helped the Blue Bears, but they again left the bases loaded. Morris scored again in the top of the fourth, but six more Livingstone runs sent the game into a mercy-rule ending after the Hornets batted in the top of the fifth.
Senior Kayler McBride went 4-for-4 on the game with three runs batted in. Harrison also added two RBIs with an inside-the-park homerun.
In the second contest of the afternoon, Morris again jumped on the Blue Bears in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs on two hits to go up 3-0. Livingstone, however, responded in a big way. The Blue Bears went through the full batting order twice in the first inning, scoring 12 runs but only having four hits. Morris’ starting pitcher faced 13 batters in the first inning, gave up the four hits and walked six before being pulled. The next pitcher faced four batters in the first, walked all four and was pulled.
After Morris scored one run in the top of the second, the Blue Bears scored six additional runs on four hits to open an 18-4 lead after two complete innings. Morris scored a run in the top of the third and fifth and Livingstone added two in the bottom of the fourth to reach the final score of 20-6.
Harrison pitched another solid game, allowing six runs on five hits in five innings of work, to pick up her second victory of the day and fourth of the season.
McBride recorded another big game with two hits in three at-bats. McBride scored two runs and had seven runs batted in including an inside-the-park homerun. Junior Amanda Short went 3-for-3 at the plate including another homerun.
