MURFREESBORO, NC – The Livingstone softball team had a rough start to its conference season Tuesday as it dropped a double header to Chowan 14-1 and 22-0.

The losses dropped Livingstone to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference while Chowan improved to 7-15 overall and 2-0 in the CIAA.

In the first game of the day, the Hawks didn’t hugely overpower the Blue Bears on offense, but the Hawk pitching shut down the Livingstone bats.

Lacey Wildeboer held the Blue Bears to only one run on three hits in five innings, striking out six batters.  Oni-ife Brevard, Amanda Short and Shannon Allen each picked up a hit in the first game with Brevard picking up the lone RBI, knocking in Shanice Wilcox who reached base on a walk.

Chowan went up 2-0 in the first inning and Livingstone was able to grab one run in the top of the second, but Chowan put up five runs in the bottom of the second to go up 7-1.  The Hawks continued to score four runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to take the first game of the double header 14-1.

To start the second game Chowan jumped all over Livingstone pitcher Sheniqua Harrison in the first two innings.  In the first frame Chowan scored eight runs on five hits.  In the second inning the Hawks offensive show continued, putting up 14 runs on eight hits, aided by three Livingstone errors.  Harrison pitched two innings, giving up 22 runs on 13 hits while walking seven batters.

Livingstone was again unable to get anything going offensively against Chowan pitcher Jessica Farmer who threw five innings, giving up only three hits and striking out nine batters.  Sheniqua Harrison picked up two of the Livingstone hits and Brevard recorded the third.

Shannon Allen came in to pitch in the third inning and kept the Hawks off the scoreboard for the final two innings as the Blue Bears fell 22-0.

Livingstone is next scheduled to play in the CIAA Softball Round-up in Raleigh, NC Friday-Sunday where they will face teams from the Eastern Division.
