SALISBURY, NC – The Livingstone volleyball team was overpowered Wednesday evening by the St. Augustine’s College Falcons as they fell 3-0 in CIAA action.
With the loss, the Blue Bears fell to 12-8 overall, 6-8 in the CIAA and 2-7 in the Western Division. St. Augustine’s improved to 15-12 overall, 8-4 in the conference and 4-3 in the division.
Livingstone got out to the early lead in the first game 3-1. St. Augustine’s battled back to square the set at 4-4 and then the teams traded points to 7-7. The Falcons went up 10-7 and then took eight of the next 11 points to open up a lead of 18-10. The Blue Bears couldn’t overcome this deficit as they fell 25-14 in game one.
The Blue Bears again had an early lead in the second game and the Falcons fought back. Livingstone trailed by only two points at 13-11, but hitting and mental errors cost the Blue Bears valuable points. St. Augustine’s took the second game 25-15.
The two teams were tight through the first 10 points as St. Augustine’s held a small 6-4 edge, but quickly increased it to five at 14-9 and never looked back. The Falcons took the third game 25-19 and the match 3-0.
Sophomore middle hitter Michelle Thompson led the Blue Bears with eight kills while freshman middle hitter Lakitta Hicks added seven kills.
Livingstone will take their game to the road this weekend as they travel to Denmark, SC Friday to take on Vorhees College before heading to Augusta Georgia to play Paine College and Concordia College in a tri-match on Saturday.
