The Lady Blue Bears Win against ECSU, 67-62

Salisbury NC - November 20, 2008 The Lady Blue Bears invited the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University into their den and slowly closed the door on them. It was with hard grit and determination that Livingstone handed ECSU (0-2, 0-1 CIAA) their second lose of the year. Livingstone (2-1, 1-1 CIAA) struggled in the first half but managed to end the half down ten points, 37-27. Sophomore forward
Brittany Wright (East Orange, NJ) led LC with 21 points and 15 rebounds in the game and propelled LC with her double-double ability to a 67-62 victory.
The Lady Vikings’ opened up with a 9-0 run in the first period. Calling the first timeout, Head Coach Angelyne Brown of Livingstone tried to throw a wrinkle in the quick offensive execution of the Lady Vikings. Livingstone’s first points came from senior, shooting guard,
Asheka Hudson (Milwaukee, WI) with a drive to the hole. Starting off slow, Livingstone continued to work defensively to force the Lady Viking into 12 first half turnovers.
With
a defensive aggression, the Lady Blue Bears came back in the second half with a half court press to force Lady Vikings’ turnovers. The Lady Blue Bears forced an essential turnover, by guard
Chelsea Johnson (Tallahassee, FL) which gave the ladies their first lead of the game, 61-60.
With 1:00 left to go in the game, the Lady Blue Bears finished with four free throw from Hudson and freshman guard
Montiya Harrison (Petersburg, VA), to end the game 67-62. Hudson contributed 13 points to this victory.
Sophomore, Briana Glover had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists to lead the Lady Vikings, while junior, Joyce Freeman had 14 points and junior Ashley Anderson and freshman Kearah Jefferys both chipped in with six points a piece.
The Lady Blue Bears will go on the road to face the Shaw University’s Lady Bears on Tuesday November 25th in Raleigh, NC at 5:30 pm at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
