BOWIE, MD. - November 18, 2008 Sophomores, Rashida Elbourne scored 11 points and Cassaundra Rhodes grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and chipped in with 6 points for the Lady Blue Bears in a lost to the Lady Bull Dogs of Bowie State 68-44.
Bowie State pressured and forced the issue with the visiting Lady Blue Bears an opening the game with 6-0 run and 17:45 in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs pushed their lead to 23-7 by the midway point of the first half and strolled into halftime with a very comfortable 41-16 lead. The Lady Bulldogs played tenacious defense in the first 20 minutes, holding Livingstone’s Lady Blue Bears to 5-of-28 shooting (17.9 percent).
Bowie State began the second half much like the first, coming out after the break with a 14-4 burst. Livingstone continued to miss the mark in the second period but shot slightly better in the second half (9-of-30), but ended the night making only 24 percent of their field goal attempts.
Top scores for the Lady Bulldogs would have been sophomores Denisha Kenion and Teaunsha Robinson who both scored a dozen points. Junior Stephanie Phatiphong and freshman Juliette Turner led Bowie State on the glass with five rebounds apiece.
The Lady Blue Bears (1-1 overall, 0-1 in the CIAA) return home to play Elizabeth City State University’ Lady Vikings at William J. Trent Gymnasium tip-off is at 5:30 on November 20, 2008. This win improves the Lady Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0 respectively).
