FULL STATISTICS

Salisbury
, NC Saturday November 15, 2008 the Lions of Mars Hill College (1-0 overall) spoiled the season opener for the Blue Bears of Livingstone College (0-1 overall). Head Coach James Stinson opens his fifth season at the helm of men’s basketball and has Pre-Season CIAA pick Tayloe Taylor (Memphis, TN) leading the Blue Bears into action.

The masses would turn out to see the unveiling of the new 2008-09 Blue Bears, but all of the excitement would be for not as Livingstone fell behind early to the Lions. Center Keith Darden ( Greensboro, NC)was plagued by early foul trouble which forced Coach Stinson to alter his line-up to four guard set and one post player. This allowed the Blue Bears to shoot more perimeter shots, which they converted into points. Livingstone hit 7 three point shots in the first half to come from as many as 12 down (21-9) to lead by 3 points at half time (41-38).

PJ Gore had 28 points to lead all scores and Danny Sanders had a double-double (18 points and 14 rebounds) to help Mars Hill come back and take the lead and help the Lions win the game after outscoring the Blue Bears by 20 points in the 2 period.

Four Blue Bears scored in double figures while the team shot 31.7 percent from the floor. Junior shooting guard Calvin Gunning (Camden, NJ) led the team with a double-double (16 points and 13 rebounds). Senior, Santonio Springs (Charlotte, NC) had 11 points while both junior, Sean Booker ( Louisville, KY) and sophomre Donte Durant (Washington, DC) finished the game with 11 points

Livingstone College will travel to Bowie, Maryland to take on the Bulldogs of Bowie Sate University on Tuesday, November 18th at 7:30 pm at A.C. Jordan arena.
