Raleigh, NC – November 20, 2008 the Bears of Shaw University (3-1 overall, 1-1 CIAA) gave the Blue Bears of Livingstone College ( their just deserts a few days before the Thanksgiving holidays when they handed them 77-55 lost in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Livingstone would go inside into
Calvin Gunning (Camden, NJ) often and early as he had would have 11 points in18 minutes in the first half for the Blue Bears. At the 13:18 mark, the Blue Bears were ahead 13-11. The two teams would slug it out and be tied at 25-25 with 6:16 left in the game. SU went on a 7-0 run to take a 32-25 lead, but the Blue Bears would make a late charge before the end of the first half. Unfortunately, the Blue Bears were 12-27 from the floor, which would give SU a 38-32 lead going into the half.
Shaw would take their six point lead in the second half and never look back. The Blue Bears would find themselves trailing 44-34 early in the second half.
Tayloe Taylor (Memphis, TN) would lead the Blue Bears in the second period with seven points and finish the game with 13 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds and
Chad Wilson (Henderson, NC) would chip in with 10 points.
Livingstone would be cold from behind the 3-point line shooting 3-12 for the game and 8-22 from the free throw line. This would add up to disaster for Livingstone as they would fall short to Shaw University 73-55.
Raheem Smith was the leading scorer for SU with 16 points. Rodney Callwood added 14 points, and Chris Sellers had 13 points to help Shaw University win their first game CIAA.
Livingstone College, (1-3 overall, 0-1 in the western division, 1-2 in the CIAA) heads out to Gary Indiana to play in the
Lakeshore Classic for the Thanksgiving Holidays.
